Drug uses

Diflucan is used to treat fungal infections - urinary tract infections, yeast infections, AIDS cryptoccal infections, peritonitis, and pneumonia.

Directions

Fluconazole is taken orally either with food or without. In order to make the medicine work better, take it at the same time each day. Do not stop taking Diflucan even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses. Follow your doctor's recommendations while using Diflucan. Take this medication at least 2 hours before proton pump inhibitors (e.g. omeprazole).

Warnings/ Cautions

You should be aware that Diflucan may cause dizziness. Do not take alcohol or certain medications while using Diflucan. Caution is advised while using this drug. Stay away from driving or performing other potentially dangerous tasks until you know how you react to the medicine. Diflucan is reported to cause rare cases of serious liver damage, including death (mainly in patients with serious medical conditions). Contact your doctor at once if you have yellowing of the skin or eyes, swollen or tender abdomen.

Use the medication for the full course of treatment. If you stop taking Diflucan before the course is over your infection may not be cleared up completely. This can also make the fungus become less sensitive to Diflucan or other medicines. And, as a result, the infection could be made harder to treat in the future. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat your condition as long-term or repeated use of Diflucan may be the cause of a second infection.

Be aware that hormonal birth control (such as birth control pills) may not work as it is supposed to work while you are taking Diflucan. Use condoms in order to prevent pregnancy. Contact your doctor in case you become pregnant. You may have serious of using the medicine while you are pregnant. Diflucan is excreted into breast milk. Check with your doctor if are or will be breast-feeding.

Certain medical conditions may cause interactions with Diflucan. Inform your doctor of any medical conditions (allergies, kidney or liver disease, an irregular heartbeat, a weakened immune system) you have as well as of all the medicines (prescription or over the counter) you are taking.
